The City Security Management System is up and running as of Monday.

According to a statement issued by the Police Department, the newly installed city surveillance cameras will now be monitoring public spaces 24/7 to prevent crime.

The process to install surveillance cameras in Lefkoşa and Girne within the framework of the City Management System Law No. 31/2018 which started on July 11, 2019 was completed last week.

CCTV cameras have been placed in public areas such as squares, main roads and highways.

A new police unit which will be in charge of operating the surveillance system will be working round-the-clock to monitor and ensure the public’s safety, the police department statement added.

It also said that the TRNC police force had taken its place amongst modern law enforcement institutions.
