Turkish Presidential Spokesman İbrahim Kalın met with the EU’s European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi in the capital Ankara, on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the two officials discussed Turkey’s EU membership process, updating the 2016 deal on migration, cooperation on migration, humanitarian aid, modernizing of the Customs Union, visa liberalization, Cyprus, and Afghanistan.

On Cyprus, Turkish officials said a two-state solution for the long-divided island is the fairest solution and that the EU taking a fair, rational, and impartial stance on the issue would contribute to a solution.

On Afghanistan, Turkey and the EU agreed that they should continue their close cooperation to continue diplomatic initiatives to ensure peace and stability in the country and prevent a new wave of migration.
