President Ersin Tatar met with Turkish Cypriots living in the US on Monday as part of his contacts in New York.

“We shall not abandon our independence and freedom,” said Tatar speaking at the gathering held at the town of Port Washington.

President Tatar briefed the group on the Turkish Cypriot side’s vision for a two-state solution which he said was fully supported by Turkey.

He pointed out that the TRNC had developed greatly since the 1960s when many Turkish Cypriots were forced to immigrate to other countries.

Tatar also welcomed the allocation of a floor at the Türkevi for the TRNC Representation Office, stating that it was a pleasing development for Turkish Cypriots.
