Political parties with seats in parliament were briefed by President Ersin Tatar on Thursday regarding his contacts in New York.

Making a short statement after the briefing, the leader of the People’s Party Kudret Özersay said that finding common ground is essential for the restart of talks between the two sides on the Cyprus issue.

Özersay also stated that they approved the appointment of a new representative by the UN to deal with the relations and cooperation between the two sides.

“We believe that cooperation on issues such as health, environment, trade, transitions and mutual recognition of vaccines will relieve the Turkish Cypriot people” said Özersay.

The leader of the Democrat Party, Minister for Tourism and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu for his part voiced his support for President Ersin Tatar.

“President Tatar shared with us the developments that may take place in the upcoming process. We support the president’s views. What has been conveyed to us coincides with our views as a party” said Ataoğlu.

The leader of the Rebirth Party Erhan Arıklı also voiced his party’s support for the road map put forward by President Ersin Tatar.

Arıklı also voiced his view that he does not believe it is possible for the two peoples on the island to live together or to come to an agreement on a solution.
