President Ersin Tatar evaluated the Greek Cypriot administration changing the date of the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus from the 16th of August 1960 to the 1st of October as another indication that the Republic of Cyprus has changed into a Greek Cypriot state.
During his evaluation President Ersin Tatar said that while the Republic of Cyprus was established on the 16th of August 1960 with the equal founding partnership of the Turkish Cypriot and the Greek Cypriot peoples, it was transformed into a Greek Cypriot state by force of arms after the attacks of the 21st of December 1963 with the aim of achieving enosis on the island.
“The Turkish Cypriot people were excluded from the Republic of Cyprus and in addition to the amendment of the constitution of this republic, which was transformed into a Greek Cypriot state by the Greek Cypriots, the date of the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus was changed to 1 October” said Tatar and added that this is just another fact that proves that the Republic of Cyprus is a Greek Cypriot state.
Noting that just like every other year, this year a variety of ceremonies are being organized by the so called Republic of Cyprus to celebrate the day, Tatar said that while the main target of all of these attempts by the Greek Cypriot side is the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and motherland Turkey, it is worth noting that such actions and demonstrations are aimed at ruining a possible agreement.
Explaining that during his meeting in New York with the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres he drew attention to the realities on the island and reiterated his solution proposal based on the sovereign equality of the two separate states.
Noting that he had called on the Greek Cypriot side for dialogue towards an agreement, Tatar however noted that the Greek Cypriot side is insisting on its intransigent stance.
