President Ersin Tatar on Thursday said that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and Turkey were defending the sovereignty of the Turkish Cypriot people as one unified body.

Tatar was speaking whilst receiving a delegation from the Turkish Mukhtars Federation who is in the TRNC for a visit.

Speaking during the meeting, the president said that the TRNC will never allow anyone to break off the Turkish Cypriot peoples’ ties with motherland Turkey.

He added that there were two sovereign peoples on the island.

Drawing attention to the unbreakable bond that exists between the two countries, Tatar said that the Turkish Cypriots had established their state following great sacrifices.

“This is the success of the Turkish Cypriot people, this is the success of Turkey, this is a Turkish success,” he said.
