President Ersin Tatar attended the “Karabakh belongs to Azerbaijan” event which was organized by the Turkey Azerbaijan Associations’ Federation in Istanbul to mark the 1st anniversary of the Karabakh victory.

Speaking to Azerbaijani press before the event, President Tatar congratulated Chief Commander İlham Aliyev on behalf of the Turkish Cypriot People.

“As your brothers your victory is our victory and that of the Turkish world. While your happiness is our happiness your pain is our pain. We know what it is to suffer from our own struggles with the Greek Cypriots,” he said.

Tatar pointed out that the Turkish Cypriot People had waged a similar struggle and that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was proud to be a part of the Turkish world.

He said that the oppression they endured should never be forgotten.

Later at the event, the president also delivered a speech

Noting that they were following all developments in Azerbaijan closely, he repeated that the Turkish Cypriot people shared Azerbaijan’s joy.

Tatar also underlined the importance of acting together as members of the same nation.

Reminding that the Turkish Cypriot People suffered for long years in Cyprus from the hands of Greek Cypriots Tatar said that Turkey’s support was vital in the current struggle being waged against injustice.

Stressing that the TRNC succeeded in becoming a state in the Eastern Mediterranean, he said, “We need to act together. Our struggle should be your struggle. It is time to act together and time to be strong.”

“The TRNC which is also your honour should be protected and its existence maintained in the Eastern Mediterranean” Tatar said.

He reminded that Turkey, Azerbaijan and the TRNC were three states under one nation.

Tatar also expressed the need for the further development of economic cooperation.

Referring to the unjust embargoes imposed on the Turkish Cypriot People, President Tatar said the Turkish Cypriot People was resisting attempts by Greek Cypriots to transform them into a minority within a Greek Cypriot state.
