President Ersin Tatar emphasized the importance of increasing confidence in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and its future during an inaugural speech he delivered at an exhibition held at the Near East University Faculty of Communication to mark the 38th anniversary of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Speaking at the ceremony the president touched upon the Cyprus issue by saying “we don’t have any problems with our neighbours in the south as we respect their sovereignty, but they too should respect our state, culture and democracy and the world should mediate this”.

President Tatar also emphasized the importance of studies in the fields of culture, art and science.

“If artists from Kirgizstan have reflected in their work the events that have taken place in Muratağa, Sandallar, Ayvasıl and other areas, this is an indication of our unity with the Turkic world” said Tatar and added that in order to overcome diplomatic difficulties, the TRNC plays an important role in promoting its existence and the struggle waged by the Turkish Cypriot people.

Explaining that there are students from a variety of countries around the world and trade connections in the TRNC Tatar said that this shows that the reality of the TRNC is being seen by the world.

“We also want an agreement to be found in Cyprus but we want a just, lasting, sustainable agreement. We don’t want to go back to 1974” said Tatar.

“We look to the future with confidence. It is very important for us to be able to maintain this policy together with Motherland Turkey in order to preserve peace, tranquillity and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean” said President Tatar.
