President Ersin Tatar received the Justice and Development Party’s (AKP) Hatay MP Hüseyin Şanverdi and his accompanying delegation on Monday.
Speaking during the visit, President Tatar referred to the importance of such contacts and visits in further developing relations with Turkey.
Stating that they have been struggling with Turkey for the existence and the future of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Tatar said the Turkish Cypriots had been continuing their struggle for existence for many years with the support of Turkey.
Referring to the great success and developments achieved since 1974 until today, he said despite its political non-recognition the world accepted the existence and reality of the TRNC.
Noting that informal contacts continued with hundreds of countries in the fields of trade, sports and culture, President Tatar said “I look to the future with confidence. I have never been pessimistic. There is a struggle of heroic people here.”
Stating that talks aimed at a federation have ended in Cyprus, he said they had been pursuing a new policy which is based on the co-existence of two sovereign equal states.
The AKP MP Hüseyin Şanverdi for his part referred to the importance of unity and solidarity and stressed that Turkey and the Turkish people will always be beside the TRNC.
