President Ersin Tatar on Wednesday said that the Turkish Cypriot people will never abandon their sovereignty or their freedom.

Tatar was speaking during the unveiling of an Atatürk bust at the building of the Freedom Fighters Commander Society in Gazimağusa.

He said that a solution in Cyprus was only possible between two sovereign states that cooperate.

Stating that it should never be forgotten that the goal of the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo since the island’s British colonial rule was to unite the island with Greece, President Ersin Tatar said that the national struggle will continue.

Recalling the developments that took place in Crans Montana in 2017, Tatar said that the Turkish Cypriot people will never abandon Turkey’s guarantees and that no one should pay heed to speculative and distorted news reports that emerge in the Greek Cypriot press.

The president said that the Greek Cypriot side aimed to break off Turkey’s ties with Cyprus through a federal settlement.

“In light of the developments in the region, the thesis in favour of a federal settlement has been shelved once and for all,” he said.

Tatar added that the Turkish Cypriot side’s new vision for a settlement carried out with the support of Turkey should be voiced at international platforms at every opportunity.
