Bayrak Radio Television Corporation is celebrating its 58th anniversary.
A series of events are taking place this week to mark the anniversary.
A concert will take place at BRT on Tuesday 8pm.
An exhibition prepared by Ayhatun Ateşin, Eser Keçeci Malyalı and Rukiye Onurel will also be opened to visitors at the Rustem Bookshop on Wednesday at 6:30pm.
The exhibition will be opened by President Ersin Tatar.
A radio broadcast will be held in front of the Lefkoşa Post Office on Thursday, December 23 as of 10am.
Bayrak Radio was located at the top floor of the Post Office building before the current premises in Lefkoşa was built.
On Friday, a reception will be held at the BRTK Broadcasting Museum at 11am.
The Bayrak Gazette which will squeeze in BRT’s 58 year history into 58 pages will be distributed free-of-charge at all newsstands on Saturday,
December 25.
Meanwhile, BRTK Director Meryem Özkurt is also paying a series of visits to state and government officials throughout the week.
Her first visit was to the leader of the Rebirth Party Erhan Arıklı.
Speaking during the visit, Özkurt said that BRT, which set out as a simple makeshift radio station powered with car batteries, now boasted three TV channels, six radio channels and a website.
She pointed out that the pandemic had once again revealed the importance of accurate reporting, adding that people were informed correctly during the lockdown and post lockdown periods thanks to BRT’s news bulletins and announcements, both in Turkish and other languages.
The BRT Director also said that BRT’s 2 channel had been transformed into a home school channel during the lockdowns providing remote education to children at home.
The leader of the YDP Erhan Arıklı for his part praised the accomplishments of BRT and wished all the success for the corporation’s future endeavours.
The BRT Director will also pay visits to President Ersin Tatar, the Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Ali Murat Başçeri and the leader of the Peoples’ Party (HP) Kudret Özersay this afternoon.
