President Ersin Tatar said on Monday that Turkey has always supported the Turkish Cypriot people and that the struggle for existence continues.
Tatar was speaking during a visit paid to him by the Chairman of Turkey’s Great Unity Party (BBP) Mustafa Destici and his accompanying delegation who are in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to take part in events held to mark the 21st of December Martyrs’ Week.
Pointing out that the Cyprus issue has always been a part of Turkey’s agenda; President Tatar said that the Turkish Cypriot people are an inseparable part of Turkey and that the Turkish Cypriot people always trust Turkey.
“During our national struggle, many martyrs and great sacrifices were made due to the inhumane cruelty and massacres committed by the Greek-Greek duo,” said Tatar, adding that Turkish Cypriots, who were driven out of 103 villages, were condemned to live in ghettos for years.
“We resisted because we knew one day that the Turkish soldiers and Turkey would come,” said Tatar.
Touching upon the embargoes imposed on the TRNC, Tatar emphasized that despite the embargoes and restrictions the TRNC continued to strive and strengthen, thanks to the support of Turkey.
Emphasizing the view that an agreement in Cyprus can only be reached on the basis of two sovereign and equal states that cooperate with one another, Tatar said that the Turkish Cypriot people will never be deceived into accepting a federal solution that aims to get rid of Turkish troops from the island and to downgrade Turkish Cypriots into a minority under Greek Cypriot rule.
The chairman of Turkey’s Great Unity Party Destici for his part expressed his support to the work carried out by President Ersin Tatar and his political stance.
