Struggle and Martyrs Week has begun

The struggle waged by the Turkish Cypriot people in their fight for existence and the martyrs that fell during the years of struggle will never be forgotten.

The 21st to 25th of December Struggle and Martyrs Remembrance Week events have begun.

The remembrance week events began with a speech delivered by the Staff Lieutenant Colonel İbrahim Şeker from the Security Forces Command on BRT this morning and will be broadcast again at 6pm this evening.

Two ceremonies were realised in the capital Lefkoşa, the first a wreath laying ceremony at the Martyrs Monument and the second was a Martyrs Commemoration Program at the Atatürk Culture Centre in Lefkoşa.

All ceremonies will be held within the framework of Covid-19 measures. Prayers were read for the martyrs at all central mosques across the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

The Post Office has issued a special edition stamp for the “21-25 December Struggle and Martyrs’ Remembrance Week.”

Meanwhile, ceremonies will be held on Wednesday December 22nd to remember the Ayvasıl Martyrs.

Turkish Cypriots from villages and towns in Larnaca who were martyred or went missing during the years of the National Struggle and the 1974 Peace Operation will be remembered on Thursday December 23rd.

The Küçükkaymaklı Martyrs will be remembered on Saturday December 25.
