Etimesgut Mayor Enver Demirel and his delegation are holding contacts in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
President Ersin Tatar received the delegation and met prior to departing for Ankara on Thursday.
According to the statement made by the Presidency, President Tatar emphasized the importance of the relations between the Republic of Turkey and the TRNC, and gave information about the historical realities on the island.
Noting that for years the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo with treacherous plans had been trying to turn Cyprus into a Greek island, President Ersin Tatar stated that December 21-25 went down in history as the National Struggle and Martyrs’ Week, and that many Turkish Cypriots were martyred as a result of the treacherous attack of the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo.
He also pointed out that the Greek Cypriots have yet to give up on the idea of connecting the island of Cyprus to Greece.
“What they call a federation is the name of the game they play to bring the Turkish Cypriots to their knees and realize their dreams of Enosis. Over time they expect Turkey to give up on its guarantorship and the Turkish Army to leave the island. We will never accept this. It is impossible to come to an agreement without the cooperation of two separate sovereign equal states with the support of the Republic of Turkey. We are shouting this policy to the whole world,” said Tatar.
Noting that peace was established on the island in the morning of 1974, Tatar noted that the Turkish Cypriot people are an inseparable part of the Turkish nation.
Following his contacts in Ankara President Ersin Tatar moved over to Kırşehir for more contacts before passing over to Istanbul where he will be attending another commemoration ceremony organised by a Turkey’s Retired Officers Society.
