State and government officials have issued messages congratulating Birkan Uzun who conquered the summit of Mt Vinson in Antarctica.

President Ersin Tatar in his message said that the Turkish Cypriot people felt a deep sense of pride as a result of Uzun’s accomplishment.

He said that the 28-year-old had proven as to what could be accomplished despite the unjust embargoes imposed on the Turkish Cypriot people.

Congratulating Uzun, President Ersin Tatar highlighted the importance of the sovereignty and independence of the Turkish Cypriot people.

Also issuing a congratulatory message, Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu said that there was no obstacle, no feat or task Turkish Cypriots could not overcome or accomplish if they put their minds to it.

“We are overjoyed and proud with Birkan Uzun’s accomplishment. Words cannot describe the emotions I felt when I saw him open the TRNC flag at the summit. I would like to wish him success in the remaining two summits he must climb to complete the 7 summits project. I would like to thank him once again for showing us that nothing can stop us from accomplishing what we have set out to do,” he said.
