President Ersin Tatar on Wednesday said that a strong bond existed between the Turkish Cypriot people and Azerbaijan.

“The TRNC, Turkey and Azerbaijan will always act in unity in line with the principle of three states, one nation,” Tatar said in an interview with Azerbaijan’s leading news channel Real TV.

He pointed out that the Turkish Cypriot people had experienced pain and suffering similar to what the Azeri people had gone through.

Tatar also pointed out that the TRNC was now advocating for a two-state solution in Cyprus with the support of Turkey.

“We are explaining to the world at every opportunity how justified and legitimate our position in favour of a two-state solution is,” he said.

Expressing the joy experienced by the Turkish Cypriot people over Azerbaijan’s recent victory in Nagorno Karabakh and the regaining of its territory, Tatar congratulated Azerbaijan, stating that Azerbaijan’s victory was the Turkish nation’s victory.

The president also expressed the TRNC’s desire to further develop relations with Azerbaijan as well as his expectation for the launch of charter flights between the two countries.

He explained that the TRNC was the Turkish nation’s representative in the Eastern Mediterranean and that the struggle they were waging was for the future and security of the Turkish Cypriot people.
