The Minister of National Education and Culture on Thursday said that in-class education will continue and that currently there was no need to switch to remote education at public and private schools.

In a written statement issued following mounting pressure on the Education Ministry over a surge in Covid-19 cases among pupils, Amcaoğlu said that he understood the growing concern of parents and teachers but added that currently, the situation did not require such drastic action.

He also said that he understood why some private schools have opted to temporarily switch to online or remote education for a week.

Two private schools in the Lefkoşa district announced on Wednesday they were suspending in-class education for a week in a bid to protect students before exams which are set to start at the end of next week.

Amcaoğlu also said that measures will be tightened at schools and that temporary closures could still be applied if case numbers continued to climb.
