Turkey’s Chief Ombudsman İbrahim Malkoç and his accompanying delegation are holding a series of contacts in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Within the framework of his contacts, Malkoç was received separately on Thursday by the Turkish ambassador to Lefkoşa Ali Murat Başçeri and President Ersin Tatar.

Malkoç’s visit to Başçeri was closed to the press.

Receiving the Turkish ombudsman, President Ersin Tatar emphasized that the struggle waged for decades in Cyprus was to gain sovereign rights emanating from international agreements.

“This is a joint cause waged with Turkey. Our connection to Turkey continues. The Greek-Greek Cypriot duo’s game is to sever this bond, to achieve Enosis (union with Greece) and to transform us into a minority. Our policy on the other hand is two equally sovereign states living side by side and for Turkey’s guarantor rights to continue,” Tatar said.

İbrahim Malkoç for his part said that the strong bond that exists between Turkey and the TRNC will continue.

Malkoç also gave information on the work being carried out.

Within the framework of his other contacts, Malkoç paid a visit the Rector of the Eastern Mediterranean University Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın and addressed a conference for law students, themed “Ombudsman and Youths Rights Seeking Culture”.
