Presidency evaluates election results

The Presidency has issued a statement regarding the election process realized in the Turkish Republic of northern Cyprus on Sunday.

According to a statement released by the presidency, the election process was carried out in a democratic manner.

“Our people, within the framework of tolerance and maturity, which are their most important characteristics, went to the polls freely and used their democratic rights stemming from our Constitution. We hope the results will be beneficial to our people and our State and we hope that during the new period we will experience positive developments for all” read the statement.

It also noted that the solution model of a two state solution based on sovereign equality and equal international status, approved by the people in the presidential elections in October 2020, has once again been approved by the people with the results that emerged from the 23rd of January 2022 general election.

“The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has been the symbol of the sovereignty of the Turkish Cypriot people since its establishment in 1983. At the current stage, it is clear that the existence and future of the state will be protected in any process regarding the settlement of the Cyprus problem, and this will be the guarantee of the welfare, peace and security of our people” it stated.

It noted that the president, on the basis of these unchanging principles, has repeatedly declared that he is ready for a realistic, constructive and a negotiated solution to the Cyprus problem, and he continues to work towards this end.

“On this occasion, we would like to thank our people for their renewed support to this vision that will solve the Cyprus problem, and we hope that the election results will be beneficial for our people and our country” read the statement.
