The 64th anniversary of the 1958 resistance against British Colonial rule in Cyprus by Turkish Cypriots and those who lost their lives were commemorated with various ceremonies today.
Two ceremonies were held in the capital Lefkoşa in memory of those who fell during the resistance on the 27th and 28th of January 1958.
The first ceremony was held at the Martyrs’ Monument in Lefkoşa while the second was held at the Küçük Kaymaklı Cemetery.
Wreaths were placed, a minutes of silence was observed and flags were raised to the national anthem followed by the firing of shots in tribute to the martyrs.
A speech highlighting the significance of the day was delivered at the ceremony which ended with prayers.
