The 50 deputies who were victorious during the early general election that was held on Sunday 23rd of January received their mandates at ceremonies that took place at district election boards.

The deputies will take office on Monday the 7th of February.

Mandatory mandate ceremonies were held at the district election boards in courts of each district, but the Lefke deputies were given their mandates at the Güzelyurt District Election Board.

On the tenth day of the publication of the election results in the Official Gazette, the Republic’s Assembly will convene at 10:00 on Monday, February 7, and the deputies will take their oaths.

In accordance with the Internal Regulations of the Republic’s Assembly, the first meeting will be chaired by the oldest member of the assembly Ünal Üstel the National Unity Party deputy.

Until the Speaker of Parliament is elected Ünal Üstel will serve as the ‘Interim Speaker’.

The two youngest deputies will serve as temporary clerks until the council clerks are elected.

In the election held last Sunday, the National Unity Party won 24 seats, the Republican Turkish Party won 18 seats, the Democrat Party won 3 seats, the Peoples Party won 3 seats and the Rebirth Party won 2 seats in the 50 seat Republic’s Assembly.

President Ersin Tatar will entrust the task of establishing the Council of Ministers to a party leader or deputy who can gain a vote of confidence.

Every deputy who takes on the task of establishing the Council of Ministers is obliged to complete this task within 15 days or return the task to the president.

The current government will continue until the new cabinet is appointed by the President.

The list of the new Council of Ministers appointed by the President will be presented to the Republic’s Assembly in full, and the program of the Council of Ministers will be read out in the Republics Assembly by the Prime Minister or a minister, within one week at the latest, starting from the date of appointment.

After the program is read out in the Republic’s Assembly a vote of confidence will take place. Discussions on the vote of confidence will begin two full days after the program is read out, and voting will take place one full day after the end of the talks.
