Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu received the visiting Trabzon Mayor  Murat Zorluoğlu and his accompanying delegation.

During the visit Sucuoğlu praised the people of Karadeniz who have accepted the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus as their homeland and added that due to the common history, language and region he accepted them as Turkish Cypriots.

Noting that the Turkish Cypriot people always had good relations with the Karadeniz people Sucuoğlu said that Turkiye and the TRNC are 2 States but their people are 1 nation.

Sucuoğlu reminded that the people of the two countries are now intertwined, and there have been mutual interaction throughout history.

Stating that the motherland Turkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus insist on the acceptance of a equal-sovereign state in Cyprus in line with their common interests, Sucuoğlu said, “We want to create a recognized TRNC. In the last 10 years this state has gained strategic importance in the Eastern Mediterranean. some countries are trying to get a share and some of them are trying to reach the south of Anatolia by bypassing the TRNC, so the importance of the TRNC is increasing and this situation strengthens the unity of Turkiye and the TRNC even more.”

The visiting Trabzon Mayor Zorluoğlu for his part expressed the hope that a government will be formed soon in the TRNC and reminded that there had always been strong ties between the TRNC and the Trabzon Municipality and expressed the hope that the existing ties will further strengthen in the future.
