President Ersin Tatar on Wednesday said that the attack which killed businessman Halil Falyalı had deeply hurt the Turkish Cypriot people.
Evaluating the incident on a TV web programme, the president said that the police was working to find those behind the attack.
“It is the public’s expectation that those responsible are caught and brought to justice,” Tatar told Kıbrıs Postası.
He added that one suspect believed to be involved had been detained by police and was being questioned.
Tatar said that he was being regularly updated on the developments by the Cyprus Turkish Security Forces, the Turkish Peace Forces in Cyprus and the TRNC Police and would be issuing a more detailed statement after a briefing he will be given this afternoon.
Expressing his condolences to Falyalı’s family and to that of his driver who was also killed, President Ersin Tatar said that Falyalı was a charitable businessman who had made serious investments in the country.
He said he was fully convinced that the police will catch those responsible.
Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu who issued a written statement on Wednesday after meeting with the Chief of Police Ahmet Soyalan, said that he was deeply saddened by the incident.
Expressing his condolences to Falyalı’s and Demirtaş’s families, Sucuoğlu said that he will be following the police investigation closely.
“We are working round the clock to shed light on this incident, to catch those responsible and to ensure the public’s peace and security,” he said.
