Health Minister Ali Pilli Wednesday once again highlighted the importance of the vaccination of the elderly and those with chronic illnesses against the Omicron variant of Covid-19.
Pilli announced that those incapable of travelling to a vaccination or health centre can be vaccinated at home if they contact the Health Ministry or the closest health centre to their home.
Issuing a written statement on Wednesday, Health Minister Pilli noted that despite the fact that the Omicron variant was highly transmissible and was spreading fast, the vast majority of the vaccinated who contracted the virus were experiencing mild symptoms.
“However, seniors or those with chronic illnesses who skip their vaccinations or who fail to get their booster shots are experiencing severe illness which in turn is leading them to end up in the hospital or intensive care,” he noted.
Pilli also said that their aim was to lower the number of cases by the beginning of March.
“I am pleading those who haven’t been vaccinated to get vaccinated. I’m also urging those who should have their booster jabs to get them as soon as possible,” he added.
Pilli also warned that seniors or vulnerable groups should avoid crowded places and adhere to personal Covid-19 measures such as wearing face masks and exercising social distancing.
