The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has been denied its rights and faced isolation for many years, the deputy chairperson of Turkiye’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) and chairperson of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States, Binali Yıldırım, said on Wednesday.
Yıldırım gave important messages on the Cyprus issue following the Organization of Turkic States 12th Council of Elders meeting.
Stressing that Turkish Cypriots were an inseparable part of the Turkic world, Yıldırım referred to the ongoing isolations imposed on the Turkish Cypriot people.
“The legitimate rights of the people of the TRNC have, unfortunately, been usurped by not being recognized. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has been struggling shoulder to shoulder with Turkiye for many years to get rid of this injustice,” he added.
Noting that all methods to reach a solution in Cyprus to date have failed to achieve the desired result, Yıldırım said the only way left was to reach a two-state solution based on sovereign equality.
“The TRNC and Turkiye have reached this point after experiencing all these failures. No alternative proposal can provide peace in North Cyprus. We are trying to include the TRNC in the activities of the Organization of Turkic States and thus there is ongoing dialogue between the organization and the TRNC. Delegations from the TRNC are being invited to activities especially in the fields of youth, sports, diaspora and media,” he added.
