The leader of the National Unity Party, Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu is continuing his visits to political parties with seats in parliament within the framework of his efforts to form a new coalition government.
Within this framework, Sucuoğlu paid a visit to the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) on Friday where he met with CTP leader Tufan Erhürman and his team.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting which lasted for an hour and a half, the UBP leader described discussions with the CTP officials as positive and sincere.
He said that he had found the opportunity to exchange views and positions on a wide array of issues, focusing mainly on the economy.
“I believe that a coalition between the two largest parties would be of great benefit for solving the country’s problems, particularly the economic crisis. We openly and sincerely discussed everything,” Sucuoğlu added.
The UBP leader said that the two parties will decide on how to process after the issues discussed will be evaluated by the respective parties’ relevant bodies.
CTP leader Tufan Erhürman for his part welcomed the UBP.
He said that they had held a sincere meeting where both sides had shared their views in good will.
Erhürman however noted that the discussions had been held at the level of principles and that no details or specific issues had been discussed whatsoever.
“The UBP delegation submitted us with a written document which we shall be evaluating in the coming days. They too will be evaluating our positions and if the need arises we will be in contact,” the CTP leader said.
Drawing attention to the diverging positions of the two parties, particularly on issues such as the Cyprus Issue, Erhürman said that nevertheless they wanted to discuss all issues open heartedly.
On Thursday, Sucuoğlu met with the leader of the Peoples’ Party (HP) Kudret Özersay.
Speaking to reporters after Thursday’s meeting, Sucuoğlu said that they had held a productive and constructive meeting with the HP, noting that the two parties had engaged in talks unofficially before he had received the mandate to form the new government.
He said that as with all the other parties, the HP’s proposals will be evaluated by the relevant bodies.
Özersay for his part thanked the UBP leader for his visit; expressing his party’s readiness to take part in a coalition should they be able to reach an agreement with the UBP.
