President Ersin Tatar has said that the Turkish Resistance Organisation (TMT) is the pride of the Turkish Cypriot people.

He said the organization had been created to defend the lives, honour, dignity and property of the Turkish Cypriot people.

Tatar was speaking during a visit to the TMT Society on Wednesday.

The president said that the organisation had played a crucial role in organising Turkish Cypriots against Greek Cypriot attacks both militarily and administratively.

“The Turkish Cypriot people have waged this struggle together with the Republic of Turkiye. We should not forget the contributions of Adnan Menderes and Daniş Karabelen to our history. The TMT protected our rights and put up a heroic resistance in the process. The Turkish Cypriots were able to resist against all kinds of torture thanks to the TMT. Those who don’t know Cyprus and its history, who attempt to distort the facts, should study our history well,” he said.

Tatar reminded that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) which possessed all the institutions of being a state had an important place in the Eastern Mediterranean due to its strategic location.

He once again expressed his gratitude to motherland Turkiye for its support in overcoming the economic crisis and the Covid-19 pandemic.
