Efforts to form the new government in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) are continuing.

The leader of the National Unity Party Faiz Sucuoğlu was tasked with forming the next government by President Ersin Tatar, and has been doing his rounds to political parties since.

Evaluating the latest developments taking place to the BRT, the leader of the National Unity Party (UBP), Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu said that they had given a written response to the proposals put forward by the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) and were now waiting for a counter response.

Sucuoğlu said that talks with officials from the Democrat Party (DP) and People’s Party (HP) to form a government were continuing, and that they expected an outcome by Sunday.

“If there is no development in the efforts to form a government, we will hand over the task to President Ersin Tatar on Monday afternoon,” said Sucuoğlu.

The leader of the CTP Tufan Erhürman in his evaluation stated that the UBP-HP or UBP-DP-YDP (Rebirth Party) coalition combinations stood as stronger possibilities for the new government.

Erhürman stated that the UBP had responded to the written text given by the CTP and noted that the two parties had a difference of opinion on the Cyprus issue and the closed city of Maraş.

He stated that the UBP is focusing more on the possibility of a two or a three party coalition government and added that if the UBP had wanted to contact the CTP it would have done so by now.

The leader of the HP Kudret Özersay for his part stated that talks with the UBP were still at an early phase and that they had yet to reach the bargaining stage.

In his evaluation to BRT, Özersay stated that they will present a written document to the UBP today and that they expect to receive written assurances on some points.

Emphasizing that this is important for creating a long-lasting government, Özersay said, “Our priority is to see which steps will be taken, which laws will be prioritized and whether or not these will be based on our principles.”

Meanwhile the leader of the DP Fikri Ataoğlu who also evaluated the developments said his party was waiting for the UBP to get in touch with them.
