Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu has said that the government’s priority once it receives a vote of confidence in parliament will be to take steps aimed at economic recovery.
He said that there were many investors waiting to invest in the TRNC and that it was important not to scare them away.
Speaking on Genç TV, Sucuoğlu shared his plans with the public.
“The new cabinet is my cabinet…I will be responsible for its successes and failures,” he said, responding to claims regarding names in his cabinet.
Sucuoğlu said that he had plans to prepare legislation for crypto currency transactions as well as raise title deed fees.
“If all goes well we should be seeing around ₺250m entering the economy in the next 8-10 months. The pandemic has contributed to the recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and this has attracted investors,” he noted.
Prime Minister Sucuoğlu also vowed to step up inspections at customs as well as construct a new harbour in the Yedidalga area.
In addition to other moves, Sucuoğlu said that he supported the planting and production of medical marihuana, adding that a team of experts would be arriving from the US in April to look into possibilities.
“There is also interest of setting up a new airline company which will fly not only between Cyprus and Turkiye but carry out charter flights to Russia. There are three companies interested, two are tourism agencies, the third is an airline company,” he said.
Also touching upon the municipalities, Sucuoğlu said that the current number of 28 municipalities was two high and unsustainable.
“This figure will be dropped to 13. This will allow municipalities to operate easier,” he said.
