The National Unity Party General Secretary and the Minister for Labour and Social Security Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu said that the situation in Ukraine once again showed how important the concepts of peace, tranquillity and security are.
“The USA, NATO and the EU cannot actually say ‘stop’ to Russia, all they can do is enforce sanctions. Unfortunately Ukraine does not have a motherland that is its guarantor that has the power to say stop to Russia” said Hasipoğlu.
Issuing a written statement Hasipoğlu evaluated Russia’s attack on Ukraine by stating that the war between Russia and Ukraine once again revealed how valuable and precious peace is for a country and added that since the 1974 Peace Operation in Cyprus that was carried out by Turkiye using its rights as a guarantor power, peace and trust had been established in the country.
“We are very concerned about Russia’s attack on Ukraine and we feel sorry for those who lost their lives. We are not surprised that the west remains a bystander to this invasion. The west is watching Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as an audience” said Hasipoğlu and added that the United Nations Security Council resolutions were unfair.
Referring to the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s statement that the world is bigger than five, Hasipoğlu said that this is a very accurate perception and emphasized that Erdoğan was once again right about the UN Security Council.
“Russia’s veto should now send a message to those who try to make their stance on the Cyprus issue on the basis of UN resolutions and not on the realities of the world and the island. We need to shape our policies on the basis of sovereign equality and two states, which is the reality of our island, but not according to the outdated UN resolutions which were taken 40 years ago” said Hasipoğlu.
He also stated that the Russia-Ukraine war and the desperation of the UN Security Council give an important message in this regard.
