Women’s Bazaar opens in Beyarmudu

The South Mesarya Women’s Bazaar set up under the auspices of First Lady Sibel Tatar and in cooperation with the Beyarmudu Municipality held its first marketplace on Sunday.

Traditional foods, drinks, souvenirs, handicrafts and other goods reflecting Turkish Cypriot culture were put on sale.

The event was also attended by President Ersin Tatar and Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu as well as other government officials.

Speaking at the event, the Mayor of Beyarmudu İlker Edip said that the marketplace set up in the area would be beneficial to everyone.

He said their aim was to contribute to the economy and assist local producers.

Also attending the event, the Minister of Labour and Social Welfare Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu underlined the importance of March 8 Women’s Day, pointing out that a struggle for equality, freedom and security was being waged all across the world.

Speaking at the event, First Lady Sibel Tatar highlighted the importance of women producing and earning their own livelihoods.

“The 2nd Women’s Bazaar has been opened here in Beyarmudu. The first was opened in Gazimağusa. This is the second of its kind. It is important for women to produce and to sell what they produce,” she said.

Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu for his part highlighted the importance of the role of women in society.

He said that production was extremely important for the country as the pandemic and recent conflict in Ukraine has demonstrated.

Also speaking, President Ersin Tatar said that the Beyarmudu municipality was a developing municipality.

“The important thing is the development of the country’s economy and the country,” Tatar concluded.
