President Ersin Tatar has said that their goal was to create an even stronger TRNC with the participation of women.

The president was referring to the important role of women in society in his message to mark March 8 International Women’s Day.

Tatar who issued a message on Tuesday, said that March 8 was being marked under the shadow of war this year, most recently with the conflict in Ukraine.

He said that women provide the world with hope and inspiration for a brighter future despite the destruction caused by wars.

“After seeing what is taking place in Ukraine, I would like to once again thank the Turkish Cypriot women who lost their sons for the sake of our homeland. They, who endured great pain, are examples of self-sacrifice for our national cause and social struggle” Tatar said, praising the Turkish Cypriot women who played a very important role for the peace and security in the TRNC.

The president said that Turkish Cypriot society, in terms of fundamental rights and freedom had reached a point where there was no discrimination between men and women.

He highlighted the importance of working together with all institutions and organisations to ensure that women have a say in all areas of society, from education to business or from politics to violence, injustice and discrimination.

Referring to the awareness and responsibility of women, Tatar vowed to continue efforts with great determination to reach the goals that will help Turkish Cypriot women advance in every field.

Tatar concluded his message by stating that the aim was to create an even stronger TRNC with the help of our women said and wished all women a future full of love, prosperity and peace.
