So far 390,745 people have visited the town of Maraş which is located within the boundaries of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and which was partially reopened on October 8 2020 after remaining fenced-off for 46 years.
It’s been said that this number is equal to the population of the TRNC.
A second section was opened on July 12, 2021 after a 3.5% percent area of the town was removed of its military status.
The town’s public spaces which have been popular among visitors despite the pandemic can be visited between 8am and 8pm.
The Gazimağusa Municipality has undertaken several initiatives with the aim of meeting the needs of visitors and helping them enjoy their visit.
Kiosks selling snacks have been put into service, bicycle renting stations installed and two beaches 800m long with umbrellas and beach chairs as well as lifeguards are among the services provided.
The tea garden and the facilities within this garden which is located on the Democracy Avenue were renovated and opened to service on the July 20 2021 within the framework of services brought to the town by the municipality.
The Bilal Ağa Masjid in Maraş was also opened to worship.
