The acting President and Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre said that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and its attempts to carry out genocide should be a lesson to everyone.
He said that similar conflicts and incidents could erupt in the Turkish Republics in the Caucuses or the Middle East in the future.
Receiving a delegation from the Cyprus-Azerbaijan Diaspora Centre, the acting President and Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre said it was important to derive lessons from history so as to prevent its repetition.
Pointing out that the TRNC was guided by Atatürk’s motto of ‘Peace at Home, Peace Abroad’, Töre said that they perceived everyone who embraced this notion as their brothers.
The parliamentary speaker added that they had no ambition or eye over others territories just as others should not have ambitions over their lands.
Töre also hailed the liberation of Nogorno Karabakh from Armenian occupation and said that the Khojaly Massacre will never be forgotten.
He concluded his remarks by saying that the Ukrainian-Russian conflict should lead us to question the role of the United Nations.
“We must unite our forces as the Turkic states,” Töre said.
