Acting President and Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre on Friday said that the Turkish Cypriot people lived in freedom and security as a result of the sacrifices and struggle waged by the martyrs and freedom fighters.

Töre was speaking whilst receiving members of the TMT Freedom Fighters’ Association headed by Yılmaz Bora.

He said that it was the duty of the parliament and the state to find solutions to the economy and other problems experienced in the country.

“The struggle waged by the TMT is continuing politically. Turkiye could not have carried out its timely intervention in Cyprus had it not been for the TMT fighters who kept the struggle going,” Töre added.

He also said that it was important to pass on to future generations the spirit of the national struggle and the love of the flag and state.

For his part, the head of the TMT Association Yılmaz Bora congratulated Zorlu Töre on his election as the new Speaker of Parliament.

He said that parliament was the symbol of the Turkish Cypriot people’s independence.

Bora also expressed the society’s full support for a two-state solution in Cyprus.
