The Health Ministry has published the figures of the past two years regarding the Covid-19 pandemic in the TRNC.
According to the report, a total of 69,241 people contracted the virus over the past two years while 195 lost their lives.
The TRNC ranked 22nd amongst 35 countries and 33rd in deaths according to the population ratio.
The report also said that restrictions and rules have slowly been lifted or eased following the administration of vaccines in January 2021, as well as growing knowledge about the virus and the emergence of less severe variants.
It also pointed out that the state administration’s good management of the crisis also contributed to the health ministry’s success in curbing the spread of the virus.
“Currently there is no quarantine requirement for vaccinated passengers arriving in the country and patients are being monitored at home. Face mask, social distancing and hygiene rules are still being applied at various sectors. However, vaccines continue to be the most effective way of fighting the virus,” the report’s conclusion section read.
