The Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı paid a visit to the Gazimağusa Port Authority and received information regarding the status of the ports and the problems being experienced.

Speaking after a presentation on the port’s current state, Arıklı said that the sea ports of the TRNC will be upgraded to world standards and efforts will be accelerated to pave the way for their management in a public-private partnership.

He also stated that the current situation of the Gazimağusa Port and the Girne Tourism Port is not contributing to the country’s economy.

Arıklı added that if the Gazimağusa Port could be improved and used for tourism purposes it could play an important role in the development of both the region and the country despite the embargoes.

He said that the problems at the Gazimağusa Port should be dealt with immediately.
