The Minister for Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı met with the General Manager of Turkish Airlines Bilal Ekşi in Istanbul, Türkiye on Sunday.
Arıklı, who is looking into ways to speed up the process to create a new national airline raised the issue during the meeting.
The transportation minister, in addition to requesting
a discount on ticket prices on Turkish Airline flights to and from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) also asked for an increase in the number of flights to Trabzon.
The General Manager of the Turkish Airlines Bilal Ekşi for his part said that necessary steps will be taken to kick start Ercan-Trabzon flights.
As for the discount on ticket prices, Ekşi said that the ₺600 tax paid per flight must first be lowered in order for the drop in ticket prices.
The THY general manager also said that ticket prices could go down in the case of Ercan being included as a domestic flight destination.
Ekşi added that once the new Ercan terminal building is completed, larger planes will be able to land which will result in a drop in air fares.
