The Democrat Party (DP) Central Executive Board held a meeting on Thursday evening to discuss the way forward regarding the formation of a new government.
Issuing a statement after the meeting, Democrat Party leader, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu said that no time should be wasted to form a new government and suggested that a consensus government model be formed.
The DP leader also said President Ersin Tatar should task one of the party leaders to form the new coalition as soon as he completes his meetings with the political party leaders today.
Ataoğlu said that they had discussed the issue at the Central Executive Board and decided to convene the Party Assembly Friday.
“The 50 deputies elected into parliament must all share the same sense of responsibility and address the people’s expectations. It is easy to talk when in opposition but what the public expects is to receive the best from the MPs they elect.”
“We don’t necessarily have to be in the new government but I would like to reiterate that the Democrat Party will not shy away from its responsibilities,” Ataoğlu concluded.
