Earthquake committee holds inspections
Date Added: 28 April 2022

The Presidential Earthquake Committee has reminded that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is an earthquake prone country.

It said that work to prepare for earthquakes needed to be carried out urgently.

The committee visited Yedidalga, Gemikonağı and Lefke on Wednesday following the latest earthquake off the southwest of the island.

The head of the committee Prof. Dr Cavit Atalar reminded that several earthquakes had taken place since the beginning of this year which proved once again that the TRNC was located in an earthquake zone.

The team inspected a watering canal damaged in an earthquake in January 2022 as well as other structures near the Soli ruins that were damaged in earlier earthquakes.

The committee said that the fact that many settlements in the area were only accessible through the one road could create difficulties and problems in intervening in the event such natural disasters took place.
