New attempt underway to form a coalition government
Date Added: 05 May 2022

A new attempt is underway to form a new coalition government following the three-day Bayram holiday.

Attempts to form a new coalition fell short last week after the Rebirth Party (YDP) and Democrat Party (DP) announced they would not be supporting the vote of confidence for the new government.

President Ersin Tatar will be meeting with the leaders and representatives of political parties on Thursday afternoon.

Tatar will be receiving a delegation from the YDP at 3:30pm, the Peoples’ Party (HP) at 4pm and the DP at 4:30pm.

The president will be receiving the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) at 11am and the National Unity Party (UBP) at 2pm on Friday.

He is expected to hand over the task of forming a new government to one of the parties following the meetings.

The previous coalition had collapsed following a fall-out between Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu and his Finance Minister Sunat Atun.
