The Office of the President on Wednesday issued a written statement regarding President Ersin Tatar tasking the National Unity Party Girne MP Ünal Üstel to form the new government and the developments that followed.

The statement said the granting by the UBP Party Assembly’s authorization of Ünal Üstel to form the government after consultations between President Ersin Tatar and the political parties was a decision taken with a sense of responsibility.

“We would like to state once again that the country’s extraordinary conditions and interests were taken into consideration when President Ersin Tatar took this step in accordance with the authorities granted to him by the constitution,” the statement noted.

It also stressed that President Tatar will continue to abide by the constitution and act with a principle of responsibility.
