The 19th of May, Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day was celebrated with ceremonies and activities in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus alongside Turkiye.
A ceremony was held in front of the Atatürk Monument in Lefkoşa.
Wreaths were laid in accordance with the protocol, and the soil brought from Anıtkabir, Turkiye was handed over by the Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Ali Murat Başçeri to President Ersin Tatar.
Speaking during the ceremony, President Ersin Tatar stated that the 19th of May was being celebrated in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus with much enthusiasm just as it was in Turkiye.
President Tatar emphasized that the victory of the War of Independence and the establishment of the Republic of Turkiye were a source of inspiration for the oppressed peoples in various parts of the world who are fighting for their independence and freedom.
He also pointed to the importance of the struggle waged by the Turkish Cypriot people in order to gain a stronger position in their struggle against the British colonial rule.
Pointing to the importance the Great Turkish leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk gave to the youth while entrusting them with the present, Tatar noted that the youth are the future and that with this awareness everyone should be protecting and staking a claim on the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
