President Ersin Tatar has condemned an attack by unidentified perpetrators against a UN patrol vehicle on the evening of Saturday, May 21.
Speaking to the TAK News Agency on Monday, President Tatar stressed that the Turkish Cypriot side was against any kind of violence and unlawfulness.
Tatar also expressed his get well wishes to the UN community through the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative and the Head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) Colin Stewart.
He also called on the Greek Cypriot administration and police to bring the perpetrators to justice as soon as possible.
A statement by UNFICYP said that there had been an attack by unidentified perpetrators against a UN patrol vehicle on the evening of Saturday at around 10pm inside the buffer zone, approximately three kilometres east of Geri/Yeri and that the perpetrators had fled towards the south in a vehicle.
The statement also added that the UN patrol vehicle was damaged in the incident; thankfully no peacekeepers were harmed or injured.
