President Ersin Tatar on Monday said that the increasing cooperation with the Republic of Türkiye will strengthen the existence of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Tatar was speaking during a visit paid to him by the Vice Rector of the Social Sciences University of Ankara Prof. Dr Bülent Kent, the university’s North Cyprus Coordinator Prof. Dr Enver Arpa and their accompanying delegation.

The president said that it was pleasing to see the development of relations with Turkiye in every field.

He added that the transfer of experience of a strong state such as Turkiye to the TRNC was extremely important.

Tatar also praised the development of the North Cyprus campus of the Social Sciences University of Ankara.

Regarding the Cyprus Problem, President Ersin Tatar said that ensuring the continuation of Turkish presence in Cyprus was important for the national cause.

He repeated his argument that a federal settlement would result in the withdrawal of Turkiye from the island and an end to the system of guarantees.

Tatar reminded that years of unsuccessful negotiations to reach a federal settlement had revealed that no common understanding existed between the two sides.

He said that any new negotiations on the island could only be carried out with the goal of achieving a two-state solution based on sovereign equality and cooperation.
