The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre attended a ceremony on Tuesday organised by the Civil Defence Organisation to award service shields to those who are retiring.
Delivering a speech at the event, Töre highlighted the importance of protecting and promoting the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC)
Addressing the participants at the event held at the Middle East Technical University (ÖTDÜ) North Cyprus Campus, Töre said that the Turkish Cypriot people had endured great pain and suffering to reach the point where they are today.
He said that the presence of such organisations such as the Civil Defence Organisation was a source of pride.
He said that the organisation served with great discipline in times of war and peace to minimize the loss of life and property.
“We as patriots should always be awake. We shall always be on the watch. We shall not do this to harbour feelings of hostility against others but we shall never forget the past. We shall not allow history to repeat itself. No one should attempt to try to deceive or trick us when it comes to the existence of our state, its independence, its freedom and security,” Töre said.
