The visiting Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu was received by the Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre.
After his meeting with the parliamentary speaker, the Turkish Foreign Minister met with Prime Minister Ünal Üstel and the government’s partners.
Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre received the visiting Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu on Monday afternoon.
Speaking during the visit Töre said “we are the people of one nation. We are Turks, Alhamdulillah we are Muslims, we have a national cause, our essence is our national cause and this is being carried out jointly”.
He also stated that they are closely following and support the policy and diplomatic work carried out by the Republic of Türkiye on the national cause, in the Eastern Mediterranean and other national issues.
“We are together with the motherland, it is not possible for us to act separately,” he said.
Noting that what’s important is to consider the best interests of the Turkish Nation and the Turkish Cypriot People, Töre emphasized that the Cyprus national cause cannot be taken further without Türkiye.
Stating that the presence of the Turkish Cypriot people on the island is a great gain for the Turkish nation, Töre said “we are fully aware that this business cannot be carried out here without Türkiye as we may face difficulties in the Eastern Mediterranean, the Blue Homeland and the Middle East.”
Also noting that the Greek-Greek Cypriot duos are continuing with their armament campaign, Töre said that the presence of the Turkish army in Cyprus is a deterrent.
“In order to be a deterrent we need to be stronger. The TRNC must be stronger economically and socially as well. We must protect our state at all costs” he said and emphasized that they will never give up on the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu for his part explained that in the past he had served with some deputies at international platforms and that although the TRNC deputies did not have any title in the European Parliament, they had carried out important works together with these deputies.
“Therefore, we believe that the Assembly will play an important role in defending our rightful common cause in the upcoming period,” said Çavuşoğlu, adding that they would provide the necessary support in this regard.
Congratulating the newly established government, Çavuşoğlu stated that the Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay will be coming to the TRNC in the coming days and emphasized that they will continue to increase their support to the newly established government, the TRNC and its people.
Touching upon the Cyprus negotiations process Çavuşoğlu stated that they had seen that occasionally there had been some hesitations on this issue and added that they had come to emphasize once again that from now on there will be negotiations between two sovereign states, not two societies.
“We have informed the Secretary General and the EU and all of our interlocutors about this fact. We have held very productive meetings” stated Çavuşoğlu.
Meanwhile the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu was also received by Prime Minister Ünal Üstel.
No statement was made regarding the meeting, in which government partners were also present.
