Tourism figures in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) are showing an upward trend following last year’s sluggish figures due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Occupancy rates at hotels and results went up in the first five months of 2022 compared to the same period the previous year.
The tourism numbers have started showing promising signs of recovery for 2022, as occupancy rates showed a 29.6 per cent rise for the first months of this year compared to the same period in 2021.
Tourist figures for the period between January and May 2022 rose by 2,584 per cent, with overnight stays increasing by 1,739 per cent.
According to the figures released by the Department of Tourism and Planning, the number of Turkish nationals which stayed at resorts for the first five months of 2022 is 282,557.
This figure was 10,526 last year.
The number of foreigners holidaying in the TRNC in the first five months stands at 66,407, increasing by 4,508 compared to the previous year.
