The European Commission has allocated an additional 2.5 million Euros to the Cultural Heritage Technical Committee in Cyprus.
In this context, while a new agreement has been signed, it was announced that within the framework of the work of the committee, 102 cultural heritage sites throughout the island have been restored or taken under protection.
The European Commission signed a new agreement to support the Cultural Heritage Technical Committee within the scope of the ongoing work to contribute to a comprehensive solution in Cyprus.
According to a written statement issued by the European Commission Representation in Cyprus, within the framework of the project, which has entered its 8th phase with the delegation agreement signed between the European Commission and the United Nations Development Program, an additional contribution of 2.5 million Euros will be provided to the Cultural Heritage Technical Committee for its work during the 2022-2025 period.
During the new phase of the project, a series of measures will be updated, enabling the digitalization of cultural heritage and its transfer to the online environment, thus making it possible to maximize access to and increase the visibility of Cyprus’ heritage.
The European Commission has made the largest contribution to the work of the Technical Committee for Cultural Heritage, with a total contribution of over 24 million Euros since 2012.
As part of its long-standing partnership with UNDP, the Cultural Heritage Technical Committee has so far restored or protected 102 cultural heritage sites across the island.
