The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu on Tuesday came together with the Mayor of Lefke Aziz Kaya and representatives of civil society organisations in the area.
The water problem from the CMC (Cyprus Mining Corporation) mining site, air pollution measurement, the Lefke Mining Museum, the Lefke Master Plan and the Lefke Centre for seniors were among the issues discussed during the meeting.
Speaking during the meeting, the Mayor of Lefke Aziz Kaya said that they were carrying out their work with stakeholders in dialogue.
He provided information about the Lefke Master Plan and the Lefke Mining Museum as well as other local projects.
Kaya however complained that tourism revenues had dropped to an all time low in the post-pandemic period and that work was needed to help revive the sector in the area.
Minister Ataoğlu for his part said that work on the Lefke Master Plan which had been launched in 2017 had reached its completion stage.
Touching upon the requests made on the CMC mine, Ataoğlu said that a report had been prepared by the University of Çukurova which will guide them on how to proceed with various issues.
He said that the quality of the air in the region will also be measured every three months.
Ataoğlu also said that they were preparing to launch a tender for the Lefke Mining Museum.
